Indian police have arrested 14 people suspected of kidnap, crimes and burning to demise a teenage girlfriend, the latest developments in rising criminal offences against women in India despite toughening of laws.

District Magistrate Jitendera Singh mentions the accused abducted the girl from Chatra, a village in east Jharkhand state, while she was attending a wedding ceremony on Thursday. Some of them reportedly crimes her before making her go home.

The village council rulers imposed a fine of 50, 000 rupees ($ 770) on the accused the next day. Singh remarks the supposes beat up the girl’s family members for grumbling against them and burned her to extinction after noting her at home alone.

India has been shaken by a series of sexual abuse since 2012.
